Syrup Grades

Maple syrup comes in four types of grades; Fancy, Grade A Medium Amber, Grade A Dark Amber, and Grade B. A brief explanation of the different type grades of maple syrup are presented below.

Fancy Grade Maple Syrup

This grade of syrup has a subtle but complex flavor, with hints of vanilla from the vanillins that are naturally present in maple sap. This grade can be used as a table syrup and good with pancakes, waffles, French toast, and on ice cream or fruit.

Grade A Medium Amber Maple Syrup

This grade syrup is a shade darker than Fancy. It is still light, aromatic syrup, but has a more pronounced maple flavor. This is the traditional pancake syrup along with Grade A Dark Amber.

Grade A Dark Amber Maple Syrup

This grade syrup is darker than Medium Amber and produced normally at the end of the season. It has a robust maple flavor and is great in yogurt and oatmeal. It is also excellent syrup for baking. Use Dark Amber if you want that very hearty traditional maple flavor.

Grade B Maple Syrup

This grade syrup is made at the end of the sugaring season and just before the maple trees bud. It is almost dark as molasses and has a strong intense flavor and is described as “hard core.” This syrup is generally used in cooking. However, in recent years it is growing in popularity as a table syrup.

All grades of maple syrup are good. Use the one that you like best. The Coombs brand is Grade B maple syrup.

By Amy Lamborn, January 28, 2015 – Absolutely the Best!

Absolutely out of this world! If you are a maple syrup fiend, this is a must-have. Not for the weak of heart! If a strong maple flavor is what you’re after, look no further.

By Wendy Lou, January 22, 2015 – Your Pancakes Will Love This!

We love the flavor of Grade B maple syrup. That it’s organic is a great bonus. I use it in my homemade granola, as well as on pancakes and waffles.

By Crunchymama, January 16, 2015 – The Best Maple Syrup I’ve Ever Had

Simply put. The best maple syrup I’ve ever tried. It is by far the most tasty and flavorful of any maple syrup. I usually get organic, all natural maple syrup as it is, but this particular brand has exceptional quality. I’ve even done a blind taste test with my family and friends to see if they could tell a difference and everyone said this tastes the best!! I will keep ordering. Nothing else compares!

By Louis Hernandez, January 10, 2015 – Five Stars

Best maple syrup! I use it for all of my plant-based desserts.

By Sola Ron, January 9, 2015 – Really Great Maple Syrup

Really great maple syrup. Upon comparing it to a competitor’s maple syrup (using a blind taste test) our family members preferred this one.
